Times are tough! Corporations and the private sector have been greatly affected by the global melt-down in the financial markets and the resulting credit crunch, coupled with the loss of UK productivity (that fell off a cliff in 2009), and the loss of markets. Closures, mergers and acquisitions are commonplace, and senior managers need to employ the tactics of the successful in order to secure their careers and the possibilities for future advancement.

Life’s no sweeter in the public sector. For the foreseeable future UK public expenditure will significantly contract with the resulting pressures on staffing levels. First will be admin and back office staff, then middle and senior management posts will go as decision-makers struggle to retain priority front line services. This is turn will affect the private sector with an almost certain contraction in consumer spending.
