My philosophical approach to coach-mentoring is informed by a rejection of all deterministic / mechanistic interpretations of human existence that would have us a mere cogs in a vast machine, buffeted by external forces over which we have little or no control.
Remember the memorable words in Terminator 2, where Sarah Connor says: “The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves." I believe profoundly in the “untapped potential and uniqueness” in every one of us, supported by the unlimited opportunities to lead a more fulfilled life through emotional development and spiritual growth.
Part of my coaching practice is about helping clients realise that they have CHOICES in how they live their lives, and in how they choose to be successful.This is then combined with practical support to improve their managerial and leadership skills, and their abilities to perceive, understand and communicate more effectively with others in order to improve their influence and impact.
I help clients become more optimistic, more resourceful, more proactive, more unique even, and comfortable in who they are and where they’re going in the world of work, business, and in their personal lives.

As an individual Member of the European Mentoring & Coaching Council, I adhere to the EMCC Code of Ethics covering Competence; Context; Boundary Management; Integrity, and Professionalism.
I am a qualified Practitioner in Professional Coach-Mentoring (Distinction at Advanced Diploma / CIPD Level 7), and an Insured and Licensed Business Master Practitioner of NLP.
I am an Associate Member of the Institute of Business Consultants, hold an MBA from the University of Warwick’s Business School, and have a BSc Joint Hons from the University of Southampton.

VALUES
My underpinning coaching VALUES are three-fold:
- Firstly that as human beings we are all of us fundamentally CONNECTED - both directly, and indirectly… and in sometimes ‘mysterious’ ways.
- Secondly that we all of us have UNTAPPED CAPACITIES to learn new skills (including emotional, behavioural and spiritual); and to develop more resourceful and more effective ways of interacting with ourselves, our colleagues and peers, and society in general.
- Thirdly, as Gandhi said, ‘we need to BE THE CHANGE WE WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD’, in other words to take personal responsibility to model and master change in ourselves first and foremost.
APPROACH
My approach to coach-mentoring is driven by a strong sense of VOCATION; a COMMITMENT to the client, and a belief in the ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES that can arise from the provision of a confidential and ‘special’ coach-mentoring space. And that:
- unconditional regard for the client on my part, plus trust and rapport-building, are essential for coach-mentoring;
- the client owns and drives their own agenda, but that I have a duty to ‘compassionately challenge’ when appropriate;
- I will endeavour to always ‘model’ high levels of self-awareness and self-management;
- I will use conversational forms and tools that are non-judgemental and non-directive, in order to open up new intellectual, emotional and behavioural possibilities;
- I believe everyone has as yet untapped strengths, abilities and skills, including those they may not be consciously aware of;
- developing strengths produces greater commitment to the learning process and self-growth than purely focussing on any weaknesses;
- emotional self-awareness is utterly achievable with support and practice;
- active self-reflection is the key to maintaining personal and professional development, both for me as coach-mentor and for my client.
