Negotiation Skills Workshop
have loads of fun learning how to improve your negotiation skills and getting better outcomes in this fast-paced and challenging event
‘Negotiation’ has been described as ‘the game of life’ and ‘the art of finding solutions’.
It’s a continual process in everyday life, with partners, children, family members, neighbours, the bank, the plumber and other trades, our doctor even. Negotiation is like-wise taking place in the workplace with our boss, our colleagues, other line managers, our teams, and/or in business with suppliers, customers and staff.
We are engaged in negotiation whenever we try to influence others, manage conflict, reconcile differences, solve a knotty problem with others, start and improve relationships, get involved in dispute resolution, or just by making everyday decisions with others.
We live and breathe negotiations as part of everyday human interaction. However few of us give a moment’s thought to how we can improve our negotiating style, or how we may adopt a more informed and conscious process to our everyday negotiations.
Consider how effective kids can be in the negotiation process: they have high aspirations, and they know that ‘no’ is just the opening bargaining position in their efforts to achieve what they want. They hang on in there while you get used to their opening request, and dig in… knowing that our ‘no!’ doesn’t necessarily mean ‘never, ever… ever!
WHAT WE KNOW … is that we live and breathe negotiations as part of everyday humdrum communications, and that we want to (or even need to!) be better at:
• understanding the implicit ‘rules’ of negotiation
• knowing what successful negotiators do
• being clear about the implications of what we want
• retaining and building relationships
• better managing our own emotions
• achieving success and maximising outcomes
Main components of this 3½-hour workshop (incl. working lunch break):
• Identifying your agenda / challenge(s)
• Learning about principles of effective negotiation
• Putting these into practice
• Action planning for success
Negotiating Skills Workshop feedback
“Our objective was to run a series of inspiring and motivating workshops on Negotiation Skills for women taking part in a mentoring programme aimed at helping them to fulfill their career potential. We knew that these women generally lacked confidence and that they found it difficult to negotiate in the workplace, whether for a salary increase or for a fair share of resources. Kiki has done a fantastic job in developing and delivering ‘The Power of Negotiation.’ I knew I was onto a winner during the development phase when Kiki demonstrated a quick understanding of what we were trying to achieve. Throughout all the discussions on venues, timings etc she was very professional, responding quickly to enable bookings to be made in a timely manner. The training itself was received very enthusiastically by the attendees, many of whom mentioned that they had ‘light bulb’ moments as a result of Kiki’s input. She was always enthusiastic, maintaining this enthusiasm whether the group size was 4 or 14. The key result is the feedback from attendees about the extra confidence they have gained and some of the results they achieved in their negotiations. I would not hesitate to use Kiki for similar work in the future.”
Brendan Hunter, Clear Way Ahead
“Kiki is an inspirational woman. She has made herself the determined, confident and poised women that she is today. She is worth her weight in gold! I thought that I was good at negotiating but sitting in, with the mentees, on her afternoon course of “Negotiating Skills” gave me even more confidence over the negotiations due to my redundancy. There is an art in saying nothing at the right moment that enables you to get what you want – Kiki’s session brought that point home to me!
It is not just in negotiation that Kiki excels. She has the ability to support and instil enthusiasm in others. Not only is she a wonderful trainer/facilitator but she is an active listener, putting her finger on the pulse immediately. She gets “in the problem zone” immediately and draws out the solution from the person she is helping. This is a powerful mentoring tool that not all mentors possess. She also has the ability to have a helicopter view of the situation and the skill to scenario plan alternative paths to get the best results for all concerned.
Anyone working with Kiki gets as much from her as the people on her courses. As a trainer myself I cannot recommend anyone more highly.” Louise McInnes, Freelance Mentoring Coordinator & Trainer
